Best Safety Vehicle In Malaysia - New Toyota Corolla Altis

KUALA LUMPUR: Seven Malaysian companies, including Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua), Naza Kia Sdn Bhd and UMW Toyota Motor Sdn Bhd, were honoured last night for excellence in the region's automotive industry.

The inaugural Frost & Sullivan 2007 Asean Automotive Awards recognises best practices and outstanding performance by automotive companies in South-East Asia.

Companies in regional and global markets were identified for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service and strategic product development.

International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz officiated at the ceremony.

Perodua picked up the Best Model of the Year (Malaysia) for Perodua Myvi, UMW Toyota's Toyota Corolla Altis 1.8G (A) was awarded for Best Safety Features in Mid-Car Segment (Malaysia) and Naza Kia was named Automotive Distributor of the Year (Malaysia).

Other companies that received awards were Automotive Corp Malaysia Sdn Bhd (in Market Leadership for Commercial Vehicles - Malaysia), Ingress Corp Bhd (Automotive Component Manufacturer of the Year - Malaysia), Public Bank Bhd (Automotive Finance Company of the Year - Malaysia) and Automotive Synergy Sdn Bhd (Business Development Strategy for Navigation Market - Malaysia).

Frost & Sullivan partner and head of the automotive and transportation practice for Asia-Pacific Kavan Mukhtyar said automotive companies must learn from industry best practices to remain competitive in today's challenging marketplace.

"The recipients of the awards clearly demonstrated outstanding leadership in their own market segments. A common factor among these companies was an unwavering focus on a 'customer-centric growth strategy' in a challenging environment in 2006," he said.

Mukhtyar added that successful automotive companies nurtured and proactively managed a distinct portfolio of brands targeting customers at various price points.

Those shortlisted for the awards were evaluated on indicators such as revenue growth, market share and growth in market share, leadership in product innovation, marketing strategy and business development strategy.
